Nigel var på tjenestereise i Sør Afrika og Ghana i forrige uke - dermed er det to uker siden siste inlegg. I tillegg til å rekruttere mange gode folk til fabrikken, fikk han tid til noen timer på safari i Kruger Nasjonalpark - et enormt areal med alle mulige ville dyr - noen avbildet her. Livet i Doha går nå mot våren - vi har sluttet å bruke varme i huset for et par uker siden, og det er vel nummeret før air-condition tas i bruk. Vi har hatt den første "tropenatt" og sett 30C på termometeret.

Nigel was away all last week travelling in south Africa and Ghana - recruiting people to work in the factory. It was a most enjoyable trip. In addition to interviewing lots of great potential employees, we had time for an early morning trip into the Kruger National Park - a huge area of South Africa which is a nature reserve. Here there are all sorts of animals living in the wild - a few of which are photographed here (larger pics appear if you click on each picture).

Life in Doha is progressing nicely towards spring. We haven't needed any heating on in the house for the last couple of weeks and we have seen the first daytime maximum over 30C. It won't be long before we need to run the air condition now!

Det har vært en uke med sanstorm og gerbursdagsfeiringer. For å ferier Rønnaug's gebursdag, så gikk vi på Sushi restaurant på Sharq - hvor vi bodde den første tiden her nede. I tillegg til Sushi, ble vi servert en flott gebursdagskake med fyrverkeri på toppen og de som jobbet der sang gebursdagsang og hun fikk en fin Sharq teddibjørn i gave. Dagen etterpå var vi også i gebursdagsselskap. Ingrid (som var med å seile i Seychellene) ble 15 år. Senere i uken har det vært tåke og sandstorm (se bilde). Nå er det fint igjen ute, og det er på tide å komme seg ut i sola og nyte noen timer ved bassenget før Nigel reiser til Afrika for en uke. Nå at støvet har lagt seg, har vi hatt en runde med å vaske bilen og inne i huset.

Tåke og sandstormer - nokså dødelig her i Qatar siden ingen tar hensyn til det og kjører fortsatt i 160km-time.

It has been a week of sandstorms and birthdays. To celebrate Rønnaug's birthday we went for a Sushi dinner at the Hotel Sharq - where we lived after first arriving. As well as some extra sushi on the plate, we were treated to a special birthday cake with pyrotechnics and a happy birthday song from all the employees. The day after we were invited for cake and coffee to the family with whom we sailed in the Seychelles - Ingrid had her 15th birthday. After that we had a very foggy morning (also pictured), and the day after it started to blow a "Sjamal" wind from the north - whick kicks up a lot of sand and dust into the air, resulting in visibility rather like the fog. Thankfully today (Saturday) the dust has gone and we are back to clear skies and delightful temperatures again. Now that the dust has settled, we have had a fair job to clean inside the house and wash the car.

På jobbfronten har ting vært mye av det samme. Nigel har en ny skiftleder i teamet sitt så det er flere hender å dele arbeidet, men det krever også oppfølging de første ukene slik at vedkommende finner seg tilrette og kommer gjennom byråkratiet. Utenom jobben har vi hørt på Qatar symfoniorkester spille Dvorak og Beethoven - en fin lørdagsopplevelse. Vi har også tatt en kveld i den gamle souk - markedsplassen. Her finner man masse små butikker som selger det meste samt restauranter fra alle verdens hjørner - med unntak av Israel da.

Work wise things have been much of the same. With a new shift supervisor in Nigel's team, there have been more hands to do the work, but clearly new employees also need to be helped into their jobs - and not least the bureaucracy of the Qatari system. Outside work we attended a rendition of Dvorak and Beethoven by the Qatar Symphony Orchestra (see picture). In addition to our usual attendance at Yoga and-or the Gym, we had a pleasant evening in the "Souk Waqif" or old market where hordes of tiny shops sell everything one can imagine. There is also a good selection of restaurants from most of the world's corners - Israel however is not represented.
